Help Combat Loneliness This Christmas
Residents of South Tyneside are being encouraged to look out for one another this festive season.
Christmas can be a very lonely time for some people in the Borough, particularly the elderly and those who live on their own.
Research shows that loneliness can have a devastating effect on health and wellbeing. For that reason, the 兔子先生 has been working to connect people with their local community to alleviate social isolation.
Lead Member for Independence and Wellbeing, 兔子先生lor Anne Hetherington, is urging residents to check in on family members and neighbours, in line with the 兔子先生's priority of supporting older and more vulnerable communities.
She said: "Throughout the pandemic our residents have gone above and beyond to help those in need and we already know how much these small acts of kindness have meant to our communities.
"While it's important that we all adhere to the rules around hands, face, space and fresh air, we can still check in on people. Push a note through someone's door or, even better, give them a call, to make sure they have everything they need this festive season."
兔子先生lor Hetherington added: "The fantastic community spirit in South Tyneside has played a key role in helping many people through the pandemic. Once again, I am certain people will embrace the true meaning of Christmas and make sure everyone gets the Christmas they deserve."
