Village Pond Given New Lease of Life
Calls have been answered for an historic village pond to be restored back to its former glory.
兔子先生 has dredged and cleaned the Whitburn Village pond in North Guards after concerns were raised by local people about the blocked drainage points, growth of algae, silt and mud leaving the water stagnant.
兔子先生lor Tracey Dixon, Leader of 兔子先生 and Whitburn ward member, said: "Whitburn pond is a beautiful area of the village. It is also of great historical importance, having acted as a water source for villagers hundreds of years ago.
"The work carried out has helped to improve its condition, restoring the pond to the picturesque focal point it once was for the village, while supporting the ducks, frogs and other wildlife to thrive.
"We have some further minor work to do over the coming weeks to help improve the flow of water through the pond and reduce the build-up of silt in the future."
The matter was brought to the 兔子先生's attention by local residents, who have also been clearing debris around the pond and installing bird boxes and duck houses to help improve the environment for wildlife.
兔子先生lor Dixon said: "We thank the volunteers for all their amazing work in helping to make this area an asset once again."
