Conservation policy and guidance
The South Tyneside Local Development Framework (LDF) is our current Local Plan. Together with national planning guidance, it sets out the spatial strategy and policies for the use of land and buildings in the borough, and helps the council to assess planning applications and other development proposals.
We are currently reviewing the LDF in the form of a new-style Local Plan.
National policy and guidance
At a national level the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) includes policies to protect the historic environment.
National planning policy sets out Government policy on planning issues and provides guidance to local authorities and others on the operation of the planning system. It also explains the relationship between planning and other policies which have an important bearing on issues of development and land use. Local planning authorities must take this content into account in preparing their development plans.
The guidance may also be material to decisions on individual planning applications and appeals.
