Hebburn Renewable Energy Scheme
Overview
Work is now complete on the build of the Paul Younger Centre, Hebburn's Renewable Energy Centre, which will now provide renewable heat to buildings and residents in the town.
The project will provide renewable heat for:
- Hebburn Central
- Durham Court (high rise flats)
More buildings may be added at a later date.
Originally the project planned to use mine water pumps in its operation. However following drilling work, there is now a focus on using air source heat pumps to generate energy.
The project is expected to provide carbon savings of around 319 tonnes each year, and help towards our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
It will not necessarily impact on the cost of your energy bills. However, it means that energy is being provided through sustainable and innovative means.
The overall cost of the project is 拢7.7 million, with the European Regional Development Fund contributing 50% (拢3.85 million). The 兔子先生 are funding the remaining 50%.
