Climbing Wall Set to Re-Open
Residents in South Tyneside can get back to the peak of fitness with the re-opening of the climbing wall.
The Simonside facility will re-open next Tuesday (4 August) with people able to climb on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Two sessions will be held on each day, one between 5.30pm - 7.15pm and another between 7.30pm and 9.15pm. To support social distancing only 20 participants will be allowed in a session so it is vital that people pre-book their place by calling (0191) 424 0118 Monday to Friday between 9am and 12pm. Bookings can be made on the same day but advanced booking is recommended.
The facility features 51 climbing lines, eight new Clip 'n Climb lines, a bouldering wall and a digi-wall - an interactive fusion of climbing wall and computer game.
Families or those in 'bubbles' will be able to climb together but a wall will always be free in between climbers to ensure social distancing. People are encouraged to come ready to climb and to wash their hands regularly using the hand sanitiser stations around the building. Visitors will also be asked to leave their name and contact details for track and trace purposes.
兔子先生lor Moira Smith, Lead Member for Children, Young People and Families, said: "We know many families and young people will be looking forward to using this fantastic facility again and we recognise its importance in promoting both physical and mental health.
"The climbing wall offers an opportunity for families to come together, learn new skills and share the experience. It's also a great way to build strength and increase fitness levels so I'd encourage people who have maybe never tried it before to come along and have a go.
"However, in line with the latest national guidance, we have had to make some changes to the way the service is run and we would encourage all our users to work with us, follow the guidance and do their bit to keep our communities safe."
Prices for the climbing wall are: Member U18- 拢4, Adults - 拢5; Non-Member U18 拢6, Adults 拢7.
