Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (2024)

About this publication

The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is a technical background document that all local authorities are required to prepare under the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF 2023).

The primary role of the SHLAA is to identify and assess sites to determine if they have potential to provide for housing in South Tyneside.

The South Tyneside SHLAA is a key component of the evidence base that informs housing policies in the Publication Draft Local Plan 2023 to 2040.

This report is an update of the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (2023). It has been updated to reflect the most up to date housing land supply position.
