Age-friendly communities are places where people of all ages can live healthy and active lives.
Public health news: September 2024
兔子先生 started their age friendly journey with the Centre for Ageing Better in March 2022.
''Age-friendly communities are places where people of all ages can live healthy and active lives. These communities make it possible for people to stay in their homes, participate in the activities that they value and contribute to their communities, for as long as possible.''
The age friendly steering group meets every 6 weeks. Each meeting focuses on 1 of the 8 age friendly themes.
In July, the focus was on housing and we talked about:
- The implementation and evaluation of AskSARA, the online self-help guide that provides expert advice and information on products and equipment to help people stay independent.
- A refresh of the 兔子先生 Strategy. This will help to ensure that affordable, quality housing with appropriate care and support will be available to people of all ages and needs.
In August, we invited the leads from the social participation theme and look forward to driving improvements to:
- Increase the visibility of local opportunities, including those led and co-produced with older people, by using 'Plinth'.
- Expand the use of national days to celebrate older people.
The age friendly agenda provides an ideal platform to raise awareness of specific campaigns. In the June edition of Healthier Times we highlighted carers week.
are now planning International Day of Older People (IDOP) from the 1 October 2024. There will be a month of activities and events across the borough, including the annual event at Cleadon Park on Friday 4 October.
