If you claim certain benefits you may be able to access cheaper broadband and phone packages. Ofcom is encouraging companies to help customers on low incomes. Current prices range from 拢10 to 拢20. If you or someone in your household claims Universal Credit, you could switch to any of the tariffs available.

Computers and free internet
There are free computers and internet access at South Tyneside libraries. The libraries are at:

- The Word, South Shields
- Jarrow Focus
- Hebburn Central
All you need to bring with you is your library card. If you don't have a library card, it is very easy to join.

The Good Things Foundation Data Bank is a free service to provide sim cards and data to residents in need.

Digital switch over extension
The deadline date for the digital transformation of phone networks from analogue to digital systems has been extended 31 January 2027.
As the transformation of Openreach's phone networks continues, the reliability of analogue systems over digital phone lines is decreasing. This emphasises the urgency of moving to reliable digital solutions sooner rather than later.
The risks of delaying this move include increased failed call rates which could have serious consequences, especially for vulnerable populations.
