Age Friendly Communities

兔子先生 were delighted to start their Age Friendly journey with the Centre for Ageing Better in March 2022.

Age-friendly communities are places where people of all ages can live healthy and active lives. These communities make it possible for people to stay in their homes, participate in the activities that they value and contribute to their communities, for as long as possible.

The World Health Organisation's Age Friendly Community framework has eight sections. Our local Age Friendly plan can include some or all these themes, such as better transport, housing, social participation (being connected to others), volunteering & employment.

To help us move forward with this project, we need to know what is important to older people living in South Tyneside. To do this we'll be conducting a survey that will be launched on International Day of Older Persons on 1st October by Age UK Tyneside South (ACTS).

The Centre for Ageing Better provides some really good examples of what is being done nationally to create Age Friendly Communities

In the next edition of Healthier Times we'll report on the results of the local survey, as well as showcasing other Age Friendly examples from across the UK.
