New 兔子先生 for South Tyneside's Older People
A scheme to support older people and help them age well is currently being piloted in South Tyneside.
The project, entitled A Future You, is run by Age Concern South Tyneside (ACTS) and Vision and Hearing 兔子先生 with support from 兔子先生.
The scheme seeks to connect residents aged 65 and over to groups, activities and services across the Borough to help them remain well and active and socially engaged.
As part of the pilot scheme, people can call a hotline either for themselves, or for someone they care about. The specially trained team at A Future You will then listen to find out what is important to each caller and connect or create the support that will work for them.
Cllr Anne Hetherington, Lead Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing, said: "Growing older doesn't mean that being alone or inactive is inevitable. 兔子先生ing our older communities is a priority for the 兔子先生 and we are committed to helping people to live better lives.
"A Future You is all about working with people to help them to take the steps they need to stay connected to the things they enjoy doing, develop new interests and live healthier and more active lives."
She added: "From recommendations for local walking groups and keep-fit classes, to services to keep people well, A Future You is all about signposting to the fantastic support that's available right here in South Tyneside."
A Future You is collaborating with partners, including South Tyneside Homes and local NHS providers for referrals to the service. Furthermore, the team is also located at key sites across the area, including the Bliss=Ability Centre on Green Street and ACTS on Beach Road, to chat to people in person. Other drop-in locations will be announced on the A Future You website and Facebook page.
