South Shields regeneration: Riverside

Overview

South Shields Riverside is a priority regeneration area that offers significant opportunity for high quality commercial and residential development.

The area runs from Harton Quays Park in the north, through to the former Commercial Hotel site in the south.

It is critical to realising the 兔子先生's ambition of a rejuvenated South Shields that benefits its residents, businesses and visitors.

Progress so far

We're continuing to develop regeneration schemes to transform South Shields riverside, creating hundreds of jobs and attracting millions of pounds of private investment.

These include:

Holborn

A mixed-use development which will transform former industrial land into a desirable location for residents and visitors.

This development will strengthen the link between the riverside and the town centre.

For more information, see Holborn.

Trinity South

New housing near Laygate and Frederick Street has helped revitalise what was previously one of the most deprived areas of South Shields.

The project:

  • provided much needed new family homes on former industrial land
  • replaced delapidated former retail units
  • improved the setting of the Frederick Street shopping district through new public realm
